2007 RX 350 FWD AWD comparision
I recently purchased a RX350 AWD, which is in the shop for an AC condenser leak and 1K service. My loaner is an identical RX with FWD. IMHO the FWD is quicker and has a smoother launch from rest. The AWD jerks forward with a torque converter like launch with the slightest accelerator pressure. The FWD drives more like my GS430. It will not matter as long as my wife still likes the AWD and as long as The AWD is reliable?

The RX AWD system is notably trouble-free and extremely useful in low-traction situations. What is most impressive to me is the smooth power delivery. A FWD, particularly, I would think, with the 350's additional power, can produce some nasty torque steer especially when turning the wheel and planting your right foot. You learn quickly not to do that. The AWD is remarkably composed in these situations.
Yes, the AWD does appear to absorb a bit of power, especially on a straight-line launch where the fronts hook up quickly and evenly.. The first FWD loaner I drove felt like the engine had sprouted a couple extra cylinders. On balance however, I'd sacrifice a tick or two in the quarter-mile for the smoothness and stability of the AWD.
