I had mine replaced recently. It seems fairly painless

They also did the brake light switch, tranny firmware, and the hid anti theft bracket.

My vehicle is in the shop now getting the sunroof repaired (4th attempt). The 2005 loaner has such a well behaved transmission in comparison to my 2004. This is the way it SHOULD be.

just out of curiousity, what is wrong with the sunroof that it can't be repaired?

The pinch sensor activates sporadically and it reverses direction when closing. Sometimes it takes 3+ attempts to close. It was making a loud noise since day one, which they addressed after attempt 2. It is also visibly higher on one side than the other. If you look at the car from the front, the glass is sticking up about 1/4" above the roofline on the drivers side, and is level on the passenger side. I suspect that may be the cause of the friction that prevents it from closing properly.

It's at a new dealer now, thanks to Lexus Customer Care and a district manager stepping in. I'm confident that they'll fix it properly. I hope to regain confidence in the company.

Sorry so late on this ... what timeframe of RXs does the recall pertain to? Thanks!

I think the problem/danger is only when it's below freezing.

What is the issue exactly?

I was not experiencing any problems with this. I brought the car in to check on a VSC light which was on. They just decided to to perform the recall. I guess it was a slow week for them.

Basically, I think the cold can cause the booster to fail, requiring a lot more pressure on the pedal to stop the vehicle.

I have the SSC/recall notice in my hand, which is (carefully?) worded: as follows

"On certain 2004 Model Year Lexus RX 330 vehicles, customers may experience a hard brake pedal feeling during cold starts that may cause the brake warning light to illuminate. "

It sounds like a very worthy thing to have done.

I have noticed within the last few months that it requires more pedal pressure to stop the RX when braking. Definetly something I will have the dealer check out, thought it was just my imagination.

Unless it goes below freezing in Hawaii, you may never

I think they primarily sent this to the Northeast and areas that go below 32f

If it's a TSB, you wouldn't get a notice. Dealers get the notice, and if a customer comes in and makes a complaint that sounds like the issue, then they can reference that particular service bulletin. If it turns into a full on recall, then owners would be notified.
