Rear door malfunction?
I just bought a 2006 RX-330 last week and I love it. One problem I'm having is that when I open the rear door automatically, either with the key or with the in dash button, as soon as it opens it begins automatically closing. I can shove it open, but I'm worried it's going to shut on someone's head or hand. Is there some default setting I should change, or is this some sort of malfunction? Any thoughts?

There is such a thing as an initialization process for the power back door, the windows, and the moonroof. The process helps the computer "learn" where the open and closed positions are.
These things are supposed to be taken care of by the dealer prior to delivery, but sometimes they miss it. You also need to do it again if the disconnect the battery for whatever reason.
See my post here (#5 in the list) for the back door instructions:

2004 owners will remember that there was a TSIB for the power back door, solving a problem where it would intermittently fail to open on command. (Solution is to replace the back door's ECU.) That was the context of that thread.

I tried the initialization process you described, but it didn't seem to work. Unless anyone else has any ideas, I guess I'll be taking it in for service. It's a little annoying considering I've only had the car for two weeks!

I took it in to the dealer, and while they thought it might be a computer problem, they were advised by Lexus to first replace the struts because they might be too tight (and it's a cheaper solution than replacing the electronics). It's been a week, and seems to be working fine, so it seems to be a manufacturing defect. Are these sorts of defects more common in cars made in Canada?
