It a luxury SUV, not a race car. Why buy a comfortable lexus, just to make it uncomfortable, if you wanted a light quick car, I think a lexus is the last thing that should be on your list. What exactly is your goal from removing all this weight? More speed? It makes no sense to me to try to do weight reduction to a RX, please, fill me in.
Most RX owners just keep whatever Lexus put in, but there are few who want to customize.
For example, my RX300 middle rear seat is never used. I just remove the head rest since its internal construction is steel. Save on weight and prevent the leather from UV damage.
I also removed roof rack since I have no intention to use it either (in fact I have seen only one RX that uses roof rack since 99). Aero-dynamic improves, and wind noise is reduced.
I have never seen one RX owner jacking up the car on a road side and changing a blown tire - why messing with 50 lbs of spare tire/rim when you have roadside assistance?
If I am on a trip, I can just install them in less than 15 minutes.
I can be lazy and just let RX drag these unnessary accessories. But removing un-needed stuff lightens up the car, improves fuel effeciency and performance.

LOL

In a true emergency, you may not be able to wait for roadside assistance. Removing a spare tire, in my opinion is not wise.

I have changed a spare time in the center e-lane of FWY 405 while cars are going by 70mph. I would never do that again, it is neither safe nor fun. For slow leak, I have a fix-a-tire can. For full blow out I would wait for roadside assitence to tow me to the nearest tireshop. But I would never understand the claim that SUV must have a spare tire while almost 100% of time it is not used. Just my two cents.

To each his own. I'm keeping my spare, and I don't think it will affect my gas mileage enough to risk not having it.

I think we should clarify for those that may not know better that you're joking (especially now that you've said this twice). I know you're tech and a statement like this one may lead people to think that "cutting the orange wire" is not a big deal.

The orange wire that that you're talking about cutting carries about about 288 volts DC (650 volts AC). Your house electricity is 110-120 volts AC. I understand that only certified hybrid trained techs can work on the RX400h at Lexus dealers... with good reason.
