Default Superior technology creates superior value ?

From Lexus

Superior technology creates superior value.

By now, you know that the Lexus RX 400h may be one of the most
technologically advanced vehicles in the market. Which is hardly
surprising, given that the next-generation gas/electric hybrid system
offers a combined output of 268 horsepower and an EPA-estimated
combined fuel-economy rating of 29 mpg [1].

However, what might have escaped your attention is what a superb
value the RX 400h represents.

In addition to the landmark hybrid performance, the RX 400h also
comes standard with all-wheel drive, our new generation of vehicle
stability control system known as VDIM [2] and an Electronically
controlled Continuously Variable Transmission (ECVT) that improves
fuel economy and acceleration.

The RX 400h includes a wide array of premium standard features, which
are typically either offered as popular options or not available on
the RX 330 and valued at more than $6,000. For example, every RX 400h
comes standard with a navigation system with backup camera, six-disc
CD changer and High-Intensity Discharge (HID) headlamps with Adaptive
Front Lighting System (AFS). It also comes standard with our Premium
Package, which consists of extensive leather trim, a power-tilt
steering wheel with memory, roof rack with rails, illuminated entry
system and one-touch open/close moonroof.

Also unique to the 400h are the electrically powered climate control,
electric power steering and Electronic Controlled Braking (ECB)
system. With most cars, the climate control and power steering are
powered by the engine, reducing performance and fuel economy.

The RX 400h comes with unique design touches like a new bumper with
wide intake and round foglamps, a new grille, LED taillamps, new 18-
inch wheels and aluminum interior trim.

With so many innovative features, so much technological sophistication
and such refined styling--you'd expect to pay more than the
Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of $48,535, plus
delivery, processing and handling fees of $650.

The Lexus RX 400h. While you may know a good value when you see one,
there's nothing like the feeling you get when you actually drive one.

Yeah.....but according to CNN Money....they did a comparison test between the regular gas RX330 vs. the 400h. You are only saving $357 per year in gas. Is it worth it....in my opinion not really for a $50k car! Plus....you will need to replace the battery packs at 100k miles or 8yrs which will cost roughly $5,000.

Wow, there's always strings attached... I think the technology is still too new and who knows what problems may arise.

I think we have re-fried this topic over and over.

The RX400h is not just about the money saved at the pump. It's about the prestige of owning an expensive luxury vehicle that average Joes can't afford. Wanna save money? Buy a KIA Sorento. It even looks like the RX300.

For me, it's about the V8-like performance, even at high altitude where the thin air chokes gas engine. Its monsterous torque from the electric motors will get it up those steep grades of I-70 with ease. The re-generative braking will help slow it down going downhill. The CVT will keep it smooth. No jerky shifting up and down.

Stealing Chevy's TV ad tagline: The RX400h - Built for Colorado.

Thats true as things stand today (price of replacing the battery packs) but as time goes on & hybrids become more popular, that is likely to be significantly reduced.

I believe that Toyota engineers have figured out a way to make those batteries last longer. They do it by always keeping the batteries charged between 60% to 95% capacity. If Toyota dares to warranty the batteries for that long, they'll expect a small percentage that may need replacing. I believe that batteries will cost far less 8 years from now, assuming they do need to be replaced.

Don't new technology rollouts always cost more, necessarily? Here one gets super torque and acceleration. Sounds like a great car to me and prices will drop eventually imo.

Harrier, you should spend some time in Jersey, no strenuous hills here wearing out our cars, wanna swap for a few months - I love that dry air out there.

LOL. I spent way too much time in Joysey. I was a New Yorker (Queens) for 19 years and had been to NJ way many times for business and meeting friends, etc. I am a happy camper in Colorado. No stop-n-go traffic to wear out my car. I can go 75 mph all the time.... and it's legal!
