Was there ever a solution to this? I just bought an '04 330 and it has the same noise. It's kinda annoying.
I also noticed a random flapping sound when on the highway, coming from the rear left. I thought maybe that noise was the spare tire cover catching the wind and flapping against the underside of the vehicle.
Nothing I hate more than random noises that can't be explained.

Wow I have this sound as well. Its loud and makes the car sound cheap. It sounds like styrofoam rubbing against plastic or something. I thought it might be the styrofoam bumper support in the rear bumper not being secure but after hearing all of your horror stories Im not sure what it is anymore....Irritating sound and completely unexpected on a Lexus.
I turn the radio up whenever someone is in the car with me. Ill take it to a body shop and let them have at it. Might be cheaper than the dealer.

Let us know if they find out what it is.
The only two things I can think of is the spare tire cover rattling, or the strut bumper stops. I'm gonna have my mechanic go for a ride with me and see if he can figure out what it is.
I'll post the outcome.

Wow, totally forgot about this thread.
It ended up being a worn out bushing. My mechanic wedged some rubber in it and the noise stopped. I sold the vehicle shortly after.
Anyway, to answer your question, it's a worn out bushing.

Clunk noise help!
Sorry guys to bring this dead thread back to live, but i need help, well yesterday i jack my 04 RX up to do a brakes job, i got all four corners rotors and pads replace, and the job was successful, but now i got the clunk noise coming from the rear right on any surfaces while the car is moving, doesn't matter fast or slow speed, i still hear the clunk noise. I think it could be a bushing but i don't know which one? Can any one help me? Thanks

Wow, I just notice a dull "thunk" sound coming from passenger rear compartment when I turn right into my driveway. I though something was loose in a compartment, but after reading this not so sure. I hope not..damn just had to replace water pump and only had her for 7 months. Not to mention I started to hear a metallic rattle under acceleration..from what I've read a loose heat shield maybe??? Starting to rethink my decison to buy a car with 102k on it
