Those are some nice batteries. Who would have thought we would have made such tech advances in such a short time.
The whole idea of a high powered SUV is still strange to me. Most SUVs are really stationwagons. They are more useful than sedans because they can be configured to haul more stuff, and with AWD, go better in snow or off road. I think if you checked, most SUVs on the road are 2wd, and as such, just stationwagons. I guess I'm just an old guy. To me the U for utility in SUV means it has enough power to tow something, and the S being sport means it can go off road. It seems that the public sees the S/sport to be the same as the "sport" in sport sedan , ie. faster than normal. Considered that way, AMG 4wd Mercedes etc make some sort of sense.

It's better than the Volkswagen Touareg... $44k base price for the V8 and $58k base price for the V10 turbodiesel.

The appeal of the RX400h is not just fuel economy. It gives V8 like performance, even at high altitude thin air. The BMW X5 and Benz M-Class both have about $5,000 premium for the V8 models, with fuel economy of a garbage truck.

Please go ahead and remove yourself from the waiting list so I can get mine sooner.
Agreed. If you buy the RX400h simply to save a few mpgs than you're wasting your money. That's true with all hybrid vehicles.

The RX400h offers V8 acceleration when you need it and 4 cylinder gas mileage when you don't. That's the key, have your cake and eat it too. Well worth $5,000 if you ask me, and no other SUV offers 0-60 in 6.9 and 30+ mpg city

Some people need more power.

THANK YOU!!!

People keep looking at the tiny mpg savings and crying that the 5k aint worth it.

The point is the hybrid has V8 power AND gets better mpg!

I suppose if Lexus put the 4.7 V8 in there and charged 5k more the people crying would be happy with 13mpg

edmunds said it best:
"Out on the road, the RX 400h waltzed up steep highway grades as if it was taking a stroll through the suburbs. It felt considerably faster than the RX 330, a vehicle it outweighs by 300 pounds.... we got 22 mpg in the Lexus. Our best tank was 24 mpg. This may disappoint mileage-obsessed readers, but consider that the regular RX 330 averaged just 16 mpg while in our care."

"considerably faster" AND 6mpg better! Do I have to say anything more?

also remember reviewers beat the crap out of the vehicles, peddle to the medal the entire time. Average drivers should get better mpg.
