Default 5K Miles vs. 7.5K Miles Service Interval

Been lurking around for a long time, this is my 1st post so please go easy on me. :-)

I have a 2004 RX330, am considering the merit of following the 7.5K miles service schedule.

Is anyone here following the 7.5K service schedule?
Any experience, comments you can share on Lexus dealers servicing on that schedule?

I want to keep costs low but still sticking with my Lexus dealer on all services, can't help but wonder if dealer charges more on 7.5K service visits than they do on 5K....

Thanks.

Regards,

Cyprian

We service our IS on the 7,500 mile interval because its our daily driver (carpool lane to work and back) and it's on synthetic oil. We have the RX done on the 5,000 mile service because it's on regular dino based oil and we don't drive it very often.

The type/amt. of work done at say 5K vs. 7.5K miles is exactly the same. There shouldn't be any difference in price.

Many dealers here in S. CA automatically try and get you in every 5K miles and even do a bunch of extra work (putting oil treatments, and other fluff) just to pad their profits.

In my opinion, and experience, if you're doing a lot of stop and go traffic or you don't drive the car alot then it probably makes sense to have the service done more often. It is also my opinion that more service is always better than less but since I don't keep cars longer than 60K miles I'm liberal in my attitude.

I follow the severe schedule, as I spend about half my commute in bumper-to-bumper traffic, and twice a month or so drive on a dusty road. Until the last few years, I'd get an oil change every 3000 miles. That's certainly overkill at this point. As a former '01 Highlander owner who got a letter from Toyota about the oil sludge issue, I won't push it beyond 5000 miles.

Following the 6mo/7500miles service schedule should be fine if you meet the criteria. To save money, go to a Toyota Express Lube. They actually do a better oil change than Lexus IMO.

Your 2004 RX330 is not affected by the oil gelling issue for 99-02 engines. My 2002 RX300 is, so the service advisor told me to use the 4mo/5000miles interval.

I follow the 7500 with the dealership and midway (3750) do a oil + filter change at home. A little while back, had a concern regarding MPG, and the tech documented his concerns about extended (7500) miles service. He pulled the a cover off and found no gel issues. When I went to pick up my RX, the service advisor commented that I must be changing the oil more frequently and I ed.

I follow the 5k service interval with the 04 IS and the 04 RX. I did use the 3k intervals on my 95 Avalon and my 99 Solara SE V6. Because of the sludge scare, I religiously changed the oil at 3k on my Solara and still do til this day...especially since it doesn't see the mileage per day it used to in the past.
