Default Chromed stock 18"s

I was thinking about getting my stock 18"s dipped in chrome as a possible option insted of getting rims. I heard getting rims on a new RX is quite difficult and I would also like to keep the same ride characteristics. Has anyone else thought of doing this? Does anyone know how much something like this costs?
thanks

Just search ebay for "RX330 chrome". There are tons of companies out there that do it. Some sell them outright, others do an exchange. Just keep in mind that many of the lower cost ones are giving you replica wheels as opposed to OEM Lexus wheels.

I think most Lexus dealers will sell you a set of chromed rims and take yours in trade. That way, you will be covered under the standard Lexus warranty still. More expensive this probably, but perhaps easier.

Default Chromed Rims

Just saw a Black RX330 with the chromed stock 18s ... can the dealer set this up? Was ready to get a Silver RX, but think my mind has just switched to the Black

Otherwise is it something you can trust someone local to do?

you can negotiate with the dealer prior to purchase, usually you can get them at "cost" which is somewhere between 800-1200, depending on the dealer and how well you bargain.

but after purchase, chrome retails for quite a lot at the dealer, so i would then suggest trying oemrims' ebay store (just search RX330 18" chrome on ebay) - they do a chrome exchange program for $600 which is slightly a pain for the customer (you have to get it installed yourself, usually $80-$100), but the savings may be worth it. i was quoted dealer cost of $1200 for SC430 chrome wheels and got them from OEM rims in Anaheim for $600 - they are triple plated with 1-yr warranty and are absolutely perfect.

good luck!

the lexus dealer that i went to offered me chrome 18s for $800.00. he kept saying how nice it would look on my black 330, plus how that was a wholesale price for them at only $200 each. i opted for the silver 18s, and im glad cuz i think the chromes looked too "bling bling"

Default Big Concern?

Saw this on a website FAQ that chromes the factory rims and does a trade for $600 + taxes and shipping. Is this a huge concern?

QUOTE from FAQ:

4. Since my wheels are triple chrome plated, can I drive on my wheels in the snow?

The snow and salted roads will destroy the chrome finish causing pitting in the slots. This is not covered by the on year warranty.

END QUOTE.

I think that salt and chrome don't mix no matter who makes the wheel. When I worked for a shop here in Ohio, I always told my customers to remove the chrome in the winter. Beyond the salt being bad .... the cold can kill them too. Chrome is a very soft metal, that expands and contract quickly. The cold can crack the chrome .... even if you don't hit a pothole. In my oppinion ... keep the stockies for the winter, and the bling for the Summer. That is what I have always done, and will do for this car.

So it's something I'll have to re-do quite often if I decide to do it? Worth the money? I"m thinking not all of a sudden, but it REALLY looked nice! So is there just a CHANCE the salt from the road will ruin them, or is it pretty much a given?
