Plz Read & Respond - Rx 330 Rear End Whinning Noise
Well... it's been a while since I posted my first complaint about the ever present WHINNING noise coming from my 2004 RX 330 on deceleration between 50 and 40 mph. (I've now started hearing a POPPING noise also)
I received a few responses but not many. I had one person reply, he had NO noise, and Ireceived one reply from someone experiencing the SAME noise.
At the 5,000 mile check up, I complained to the service associate about the sound. When I went to pick up the car... the service associate said that the "serviceman" did not hear noise. SO... I asked the Service associate to get in the car and go for a drive. We didn't drive far when we hit 50 mph and slowed down... and of course the NOISE sounded out right on schedule!! He turned to me and said... "gee, that doesn't sound right"
He went on to say that he would discuss with the "service supervisor" the next day... he called in a couple of days stating that they were going to order some kind of "sound insulation" for the trans/rear end. That was a month ago, and I'm still waiting!! Called them last week, and they told me the part is not in...
There is OBVIOUSLY something wrong with the design of the RX 330, that it makes this sound. It is NOT the kind of sound you expect out of a $40,000 car. I have a 2001 FORD TAURUS, that doesn't make that much noise.
I would REALLY like to hear from other RX 330 owners on this issue... how many HAVE heard the same sound... and how many HAVE NOT heard the sound. Please take the time to respond. If I get no response from my LEXUS DEALER on this issue, I will write the So. California district/division office, and i'd like to have some other commments.
Thanks

Well... you have a point, and I'm sure not a mechanic. All I know is that it sounds like it is coming from the mid or rear of the car... and this last time, my service associate heard it also... and stated that it didn't sound right.
I sometimes think these dealers, and maybe the Lexus company in general, want to IGNORE the issues, so they can keep their JD POWERS status!!

does it sound like bad wheel bearings? Odd that a fwd car would make noise from the rear. I wouldn't be happy about that either. Anyway you can pinpoint where the noise is coming from?

Doesn't sound like wheel bearings. I've had that problem before... this only sounds up between 40 and 50 mph, during deceleration. As soon as I hit 50 mph (or there abouts), and take my foot of the accelerator, I get the WHINNING noise until 35 or 40 mph.
VERY ANNOYING...

Yea... me too. That's why I bought when I did. I didn't want to take a chance on one from the new plant in Canada.
The problem is... I think Lexus has a problem with that changes from the RX 300 to 330, and they aren't going to admit it.
Obviously they changed the motor size, but I had understood that they did some other changes to the trans and of course they have the electronic gas pedel link, which i don't believe was on the 300.
Hopefully, the will fess up and fix what's going on.

Well... I finally heard from the dealer. They have the part that is supposed to fix the whining noise from the rear.
They said it is the "transmission lines" that are vibrating, and making the sound. So, they are installing some kind "insulation" on the lines. Hopefully this will fix the noise.
NOW... all i have to do is get them to find and stop the CLUNKING sound that happens when pressing and releasing the gas pedal.
I have written a letter to the dealership's GM & owners to let them know what I think of their "customer service"... or LACK there of!
