Lexus RX300 Altezza lights

Well, I got the lights in yesterday and installed them last night. Even though the lights came with the wiring harnesses I used the Chrysler master cylinder gasket method because it's quicker and easier and it really does seal very well. As you will see in the photos below I hosed 'em off to see if they would leak and they don't. Excellent tip! OK, Here are the pics.

Anyone try getting these "not-so-gently-used" from the parted-out-wrecks resellers (e.g., ERZcars) ??

I never thought anyone would use my Chrysler master cylinder gasket method for installing the newer taillights on the 1999-2000 RX!
It does work well though and now that it has helped at least one person I'm glad I went through the trouble to take the detailed pictures that I did.
It took a long time going to different stores (Kragen, Pep Boys, Home Depot, Yardbirds, ACE Hardware, etc) and trying all sorts of little gaskets and rubber grommets to eventually end up with the Chrylser master cylinder gasket one.
Maybe I'll patent them?

Hey badams,
thanks for making my life easier! I have the harnesses, but opted to go with your method because I have a custom fiberglass subwoofer enclosure behind the right wheelwell and I would have had to take it out to put in the new harness. So instead of having it take me an afternoon, it took me about 30 minutes total. Your hours of trial and error saved me an enormous amount of time. My other option was to cut off the existing light socket and install the newer one which also would have worked fine.

Yeah, I would have swapped the actual socket except I didn't have the newer sockets and the dealer told me since the bulb wattage was different the error light on the dash would come on. Whether or not this is true I don't know. Installing the rubber gaskets worked just fine for me.
I also figured I'd eventually make something better later on but they have been in the car at least 6 months and no problems yet, so I plan on keeping them just the way they are. They have even survived being rear ended once.

I actually subjected to them to my pressure washer to see if I could get them to leak. they were dry as a bone when I took them back off to check. Your right. It works great.

I just swapped out the tail lights for my 1999 RX300. I bought the set from 3 different Ebay sellers. The tail lights are looking good! Thanks to both badams and ederny for your detailed instructions. Yes, I use the "Chrysler Master Cylinder" method too!
In case anyone interested, there is one set up for auction right now on Ebay (item # 2461125668)
