if you have existing sludge, you may potentially clog your ocv filter screens when the auto rx dislodges it.

A few oil changes with the the the oil you mentioned should be able to clean the soft sludge. It will take longer (more changes) to slowly work with all. If you have serious sludge then dropping the pan and removing the valve covers may be appropriate. Keep an eye on the filter once the sludge starts breaking up. And heed fastnoypi's advice.

If you want to go the autoRX route, why waste $$ by using more expensive oil. You can most likely get the same results by using less expensive oil. In theory the additive, tend to thin the oil and if your oil is thin to begin with, it may make it yet thinner. The tricky part is that once the sludge gets mixed, the oil becomes thicker.

I am not implying that you should use poor quality oil, just use what is recommended and there is a potential of saving/spending-extra.

Last time we were taking about auto-RX, best conventional oil I found was from Chevron to do the job.

Get ready to identify engine leaks you never had before or didn't know about. You won't rebuild a motor in a can. I won't use a cleaner and would stick to drain and fill when warm. Just my 2c.
