Cover design doesn't address sludging possibilities, however the better designs increase pcv baffle breathability. I believe oil selection and oil change frequency affect the chances of sludge more.

I had burnt oil smell and signs of slight oil leakage (drops under engine compartment). I switched my oil to
Mobile 1 High Milage, and add STP Stop Leak. Seems to have stopped the slow leak. No more smell and' drips.

If you don't hear from salimshah and you need a mechanic in Austin, I recently found a toyota tech that works at Toyota dealership. If interested, PM me and I can send you his contact info.

Are people moving to 5W20 oil on these trucks now? 30W oil seems too thick when we are discussing small oil passages.

Just be mindful of the climate and the oil rating. Use the range (multiviscosity) to adjust for the range of climate.

i'm still sticking to 5w30 just due to my concern of sheer down, however the 1MZ-FE is certified for 5w20 . I think one of our members might have posted this chart as well on another thread, maybe hypervish?
