Default Vacuum hoses

I am reporting my first vacuum hose developing a crack due to age. 2" long piece, lost all of its flexibility and finally cracked. Since I removed the engine cover, I have noticed a couple of others that can/should be replaced.

Any one replaced the whole set as preventive maintenance?

Salim

Not in the engine compartment but did replace several sections in the charcoal cannister assembly in the rear.

i just replaced a few sections in the engine bay. I would have considered replacing the whole set but had pressure to get it back on the road quickly. If budget allows, consider silicone hoses.

I have on other cars. Certainly don't see a problem with it.
I would take a few pics of the engine bay first and do them one at a time.

I replaced the valve cover gaskets last night and was prepared to replace any bad hoses but they all looked good.

Is there a way to inspect the vaccum hoses in the engine bay easily? Or do I have to take off the cover with the L on it to see them?

Remove the cover. Three Allen fasteners along the front and pull. It's connected in the center under the L but you just pull it.

For me it was the eval recovery line ... vac-rail to test point T junction. Held in place by two clamps, the 2" long piece gets subjected to heat and vibration. The rubber was hard as a metal .. no flex left in it.

Engine threw a code and I was lucky to find the problem by inspection and deduction. I do notice am improvement in the brake assist (was loosing vacuum).

A good way to find a vacuum leak is to spray around with brake parts cleaner. When the brake cleaner hits a vacuum leak the idle will change, usually jump in RPM. You can spray a wide area then narrow down as you find it. Don't be afraid to spray and get things wet. There's nothing under the hood that can't get sprayed as long as you don't soak the front exhaust manifold. Just do it with good ventilation since the fumes will get pretty strong.
