Default New menber with new (to me) 00 RX300

Hi everyone. Just introducing my self.

I just picked up a 2000 RX AWD with 170,000 on the clock. Seems to be in very nice condition with a few minor bugs to work out.

*Slight vibration from the rear when taking off from a stop or slow roll. The center section of the drive shaft has some play and wobbles when running so I'm going to replace the carrier bearings. (Center driveshaft supports). Parts should be arriving today.

*Leaking valve cover gaskets. I'll be replacing the gaskets and spark plug tubes. Parts are already here.

*Power antenna makes noise but doesn't move. Took it apart and found the plastic toothed belt was broken. Found a new mast with the belt and it should be here in a few days.

*Lots of burned out bulbs. Replaced them. Some of these are a real pain to access. I can see why the previous owner didn't replace them.

I'm going to search around here for other common issues. If anyone can point me in the right direction I'd appreciate it too.

the leaking valve cover gaskets can definitely be a issue. One thing to keep in mind is that the rear one and the rear sparks can be a royal P.I.T.A. to get to because u have to remove the manifold and some other odds and ends to get to them. But it is doable by yourself w the right tools. There is a big write up(s) on just these 2 items. Just do a search for them and u hopefully will find them.

Regarding the rear valve cover, be sure that any leaks you see are in fact caused by the valve cover gasket and not the cam seals, which are at least as likely and much easier to remedy.

welcome. ..while you're replacing the valve cover gaskets and sparkplug tube seals.. either clean out the baffles or upgrade to the rx330 valve cover style. This will help in breathing and remedy any oil consumption that is common with the earlier designs.

Thanks everyone.

I'm well equipped with tools and prepared to pull the intake plenum.

I'll swap out the cam seals at the same time. Both covers are leaking enough to drip on the exhaust manifolds and smell. At this mileage I'm guessing they're original.

I'll be sure to clean out the baffles.

Welcome. Congratulations on your purchase. Must read is, Owners Manual.

Please read the sticky threads. Lot of information is there. This forum has been active for a long time and search would most likely find the things you would need to know. On the occasion you dont find something, please add/share your findings.

Also dont forget to post a picture of your ride.

The cam seals are best left for timing belt change. Talking about timing belt, if it has not been replaced it is long overdue. If it was done at 90k, it would come due at 200k.

In case any one is wondering what happened here. I moved the discussion on new valve cover to its rightful thread. This help future readers to have the information in expected location. Your words of wisdom will be lost in the wrong place. Search is your best buddy.

Thanks, I was wondering about that. I was just shopping for the seals and seeing that they often come with the T-belt kit. T-belt was done at 107,000 so the cam seals should be fine.
