Question RX300 Retrofit - Do Morimoto Mini D2S' fit?

Good evening ladies and gentlemen!

Just picked up a '00 RX300 and trying to gather parts for a retro. Before I make a purchase, I'm interested in knowing if I will be limited with the 2.5" Morimoto Mini H1 or if there is enough room in the OEM headlight for the 3" Morimoto Mini D2S?

I have used both in the past on 2 separate occasions and have a preference for the Mini D2S'.

Also, do the OEM headlights come apart easy with the 225* oven baking trick or do people use non-OEM units for this reason?

Thanks in advance guys and gals!

I haven't personally done this, but I did look into it in the past. If you do a search, you will find others who put projectors into their headlights. These projectors range from those found in an LS460 to the ones you listed above.

From what I remember, the first gen low beam was either halogens or HID bulb, non projectors.

If you are planning to put these retrofit kits on, you going have to cut the internal and figure a way to mount the projectors on it. The power source and bulbs will be plug and play. I owned a 01 rx300 HID non projector version and I would say you should be able to have room for the h1 but not d2s. No experience but just based on eye ball.

I would suggest doing this, buy a cheap pair on ebay and practice on it. The baking is easier on thr 3rd party as the sealant isnt as thick as oem. If you have the projector versions, a 1st party headlamp assembly is still very expensive if you ever need to go back to stock.

Thanks for the heads up!

I have installed a number of retrofits before, most recently being the Morimoto Mini H1's in a '00 Civic LX and the square Morimoto Mini D2S' in my project '91 Civic Hatch. The kits are really easy with no->VERY minimal cutting required and no mounting outside of the threaded bulb holer off of the back of the projector to secure to the headlight.

I do have a set of OEM '08 TSX projectors laying around. I know they are 2.5" projectors and would only need the lenses upgraded to clear. Using those would require some cutting and mounting work though. The kits from TheRetrofitSource make life so much easier!

Still looking for a definite answer on wether or not I can use the 3" Morimoto Mini D2S'. Sorry for being so eager Salim. I'm used to faster moving forums over on Honda-Tech. I'll work on my patience

Yep, they'll fit, you'll just have to do a little cutting, I had a set on my rx but sold the headlights and went back to a h1 setup, I had the oem hid's so it was a little harder to mount them in but eventually it fitted perfectly, I'm in the process of buying a new pair of headlights since mine are now starting to wear out and make a new refreshed retrofit with the rgb halos installed.

What's going to need trimming, the headlight or projector/shroud?

Thanks for your reply!

I guess what I am asking is if the circumference of the 3" D2S will fit in the low beam "bucket"? Is that area where the low beam bulb comes through large enough to accommodate that size projector?

I understand there may be some trimming to have the threaded section fit through the back of the headlight assembly properly.

Thanks!

Hey there again, the headlight assembly will need some trimming to fit the ends of the projector through the headlight socket for mounting, as for shroud's the rx's headlight can accommodate all of the shrouds that I know of perfectly, I have the 2.5 gatling gun shroud and still have alot of space left for a bigger projector and or shroud. If you are using your stock housings that came on the car the sealant on them is a PITA to get apart, I found for leaving it in the oven for 20 minutes at 250-260°F did the trick, good luck!
