You could be chasing a ghost.

Wait till it appears again.

No it's not a ghost because the shop ran their scan tool on it when I got there and the code was still in the memory of the ecu.

If they fix something, make sure they will warranty the work for the same CEL code. At this time if the CEL is off, the problem does not exist and a repair will be based on hunch. If the shop says, please bring the vehicle back when you have the CEL on, then you have found a good shop.

There is a good bit of information on CEL in the sticky having problems start here Mega thread.

salim; no; the repair will not be done based on hunch. They have the tool(s) needed to diagnose and fix these types of things. They will be thoroughly going through and testing anything and everything that involves the code that is in memory. But I will make sure that whatever is done; that it is warrantied in writing. Which is usually always the case. They always have warrantied their work and will stand behind it.

um. Nope. Not gonna happen. If a person sees that light; that is a indication there is something up regardless of what the code may point to. And with that said; if I all i did was clear it; chances are it would come back sooner than later because generally; the only time the ecu would throw a code is if something of sorts is not right; even though yes it is a computer; still; most of the time that usually points to something that is either kaput; or on its way to being kaput; so to speak.

Apparently you have been schooled.

The hundreds of codes we have all seen burp out and never come back were anomalies. Off to the shop next time!

Like i said before though; this DID pop a code; and even though the light went off; the code was still in memory. That is not what what i call being "schooled". And as such; I would rather take care of it sooner than later; especially if we are talking emissions; as if i were to wait to do it til before the next time I need to get a emissions test done chances are the vehicle would NOT pass emissions and therefore i would not be able to renew my license plate tab and registration. I know what being schooled is and that is not it. been there done that before. It is already at the shop and they are in the process of doing testing, etc on it to see what the deal is.

Rx was smoke tested today and no vacuum leaks were found but they still want to keep my rx til the end of the day tomorrow I think to first reset and clear the code and then drive the vehicle again and see if it comes back. If it doesn't then I'm just gonna go pick it up Saturday and wait to see if it happens again and get it scanned again to see what code comes up at that time and if it's the same one then something is definitely up w the emissions system if the same code comes up down the road.

Is the shop going to charge you for the labor?

Salim no they are not charging me for labor because we have a "arrangement" of sorts where they have agreed not to charge for labor this time anyway if they try everything they can and can't figure it out right now. The only time they will charge for labor is of they find the part or parts that need replacing.

well; it appears as if salim was right. It appears to be a anomalie of sorts as after 6 days of keeping the vehicle and doing in depth testing, etc; they were not able to get the cel to come back on even though the code pointing to something in the emissions system was still in memory. Next time; Im just gonna get the code read; find out what it points to; and just clear it the first time and see if it comes back shortly after that point and if it does I will take action from there.

Default whats with the light

I Just got my rx back from a 6-day long thorough test-drive and look over along with some thorough testing because the cel pulled the 0446 code which points to the emissions system. However; after this long period of testing, etc; the shop found nothing wrong with with the vehicle. Im very intrigued to know why the cel appeared when there was nothing found to be wrong? I mean whats up w the ecm/ecu in these older rx's popping codes when they probably should not be?
