Moving over to 2nd gen
Dear CL members.
I finally solved my servo motor scritch scritch noise under the glove box, the burn your butt problem on the leather seats and the motor mount thunk problem all at once. I traded off the 2003 RX 300 and bought a 2014 RX350.
Now I need to go sit in a corner for a week to read the 884 page owner’s manual. The RX 300 is of the era where it is possible for a mechanically inclined person to do many of the repairs. The RX 350 is a whole different story. It is like when a kid gets a hammer everything in sight becomes a nail. Similarly, give a Lexus designer a computer and everything gets automated -- whether it needs it or not. This is progress and overall I agree with it. For many of us this means putting away our screwdrivers and wrenches and getting a diagnostic app instead. I feel certain that all DIYers get a satisfaction about being able to minimize repair costs and not have to subsidize the Cappuccino and cookies for those in the dealer’s waiting room.
I have maintained all of my cars for over 5 decades and drove over 3/4 million miles. Since the new computer technology is diminishing my DIY opportunities, I feel that my “comfort zone” is dwindling down to changing a flat tire.
All is not lost. I have moved my allegiance over to the CL 3rd Gen forum. I am lurking at the moment learning when and where I can participate.
The RX 300 forum has been thoroughly enjoyable for me.
Thanks for the opportunity.

Congrats on your new purchase. Give it another 10-15 years for wear and tear to settle in, you'll find a few DIY opportunities to dust off your screwdrivers and wrenches

This deserves a separate thread.
Congrats on your 2014 ,,, you got 11 year younger vehicle.
Lexus has had years of learning and most vehicles in the second gen have not reached the age where things need more than the oil change. [Components have not reached a time beyond their expected life].
Eventually repairs and replacements will be needed.
Many years back, when we had just the RX300 forum, I never thought that we will ever have that much DIY section. Ron (Lexmex to most of us) was a pioneer in DIYs while I sat on the fence thinking most owners would drive to dealership. As time went buy I have seen DIY section grow a lot .. we even get questions from owners of other Lexus lines.

Grats. Sometimes the time sink is too great to make DIY worth it. Opportunity costs get in the way. Good luck with your new ride, I love the 3 gen RXs, having myself driven a couple loaners from the dealer.
