I greatly appreciate all the wisdom offered in this thread and on this site. It seems I've been chasing one thing after another and decided over the weekend to throw in the towel and replace the vehicle with a 2010 Nissan Xterra.
Amazingly, the RX300 stopped using oil. I think the long drive to Texas and back at highway speeds flushed the sludge through the system. Seriously, oil use became a complete non-issue. Knock sensors, O2 sensors, ABS sensors and the headlight-leveling bits have been providing plenty of entertainment though.
I took it in to our local Toyota dealership and told them what's been going on with it, and they gave me a fair trade.
Anyway, thanks again for all the help, insight and encouragement.
