Default '01 Lexus RX300 - Loud clicking under glove box

I have a '01 Lexus RX300 that was given to me by my father with 191,000 miles on it. It seems to run ok and I understand that it might not last much longer but considering I am a poor college student I would rather fix the issues it comes up with myself in order to A) have it last as long as possible and B) save myself as much money as I can. I don't know much about cars so it really is a learning experience for me, but I do enjoy doing it.

My current problem is that recently a loud clicking would come up under the glove box every so often. Today, it became constant which was just too much so I knew I had to do something. I took the panels off and unplugged something which seems to have fixed the issue.

Picture of what was unplugged below the glove box: http://imgur.com/9Nkfic2

My question is, I would like to fix the issue if possible. What did I unplug? I am assuming some motor went out in the air conditioner. If I can figure out what part it is, I don't mind buying it and replacing it myself.

Thank you for your help. My weekend projects are this, removing a Sirius satellite radio, replacing an oxygen filter, and a brake light! Fun fun

Welcome to CL.

A prerequisite to posting is to go through the sticky threads and doing a search. :^)

Your problem is related to mode or mix servo (most likely the mode servo). There is a DIY.

So, I had this loud noise also.......in the blower area below the A/C filter.......sounded like when we used to clip playing cards into our bike spokes..........So I reached in there to see what could be making so much racket...........thinking it was a prob a bunch of leaves..........

WT.....HECK!

Yes Indeed ! My little friend had a bad day!

I was doing a little routine maintenance on my daughter's RX and noticed that clattering sound in the blower. I thought it was leaves or trash sucked up in system. When I pulled out the a/c filter there were a few leaves, etc. but nothing that would account for the noise I was hearing. So, I reached into blower and felt a wad of leaves and "lint". HeHe, as you can see, the lint was not what I expected. That little fart was trapped w his head caught in the blower fins. The noise I was hearing was his head bouncing around in the blower assy.

Could not smell a thing. THOSE CARBON FILTERS ARE AWESOME!!!

I am surprised the cabin filter is that effective!; I would have thought for sure you would have smelled something that smelled like a dead corpse lol
