Instrument Cluster Drive Gear Indicator Light Out

If folks want one more DIY option, simply put a new bulb in the existing socket.
I used 12vdc micro lamps from Radio Shack http://www.radioshack.com/product/in...ductId=2103780
2 bulbs are $2.
Remove the old bulb by unwrapping the wire terminals from the base and pulling it out. Slip new bulb wire terminals into the small holes in the base and wrap wires once or twice and clip off excess.

Did you do any home-work to ensure the replacement does not produce more heat? You dont want to ruin your instrument cluster.

they are 60ma and no noticeable warmth to the touch (tested them on external 12v battery) so not concerned with heat.
I would say they are not as bright as the OE bulbs, but plenty good enough to illuminate the indicators.
12v x .06 amp = .72w = no heat

I was once involved in freak accident, where a 18wheeler backed up on me. I roved through gears to get in the reverse and with your vision playing tricks on your mind (all I could see was the frame of the trailer get bigger), having the dash light showing me the gear selected helped.
In a manual (non-automatic), you mind learns the gear you are in by the position of the stick .. not so in the auto-trans .. and specially RX with its unique lever position.

Easy fix. The dash cover is very easy to take out with a screw driver. The bulb is burnt out and only available at a Lexus dealer. I would take the bulb out first and have the dealer match it. My experiance is there are several different bulbs in the dash and even the dealer is not sure which one is correct. Once again the dash cover is very easy to remove and the bulb is about $6.00. I bought an extra because my dealer is about 60 miles away.

I got a set of 5 incandescent bulbs with the base that works with the RX dash. The cost is $1.00 and shipping/handling is $7 from All Electronics. I order a lot of electronic parts from this source, they are reliable. With the time savings and the price of gas not a bad deal....

THANKS FOR ALL THE GREAT DIY!
1. tranny fluid drain/fill.
2. cabin filter replacement.
3. D drive light bulb replacement
Next I want to switch the arm rest because the drivers side armrest has depression from pressure of my elbow. I'll switch armrest by turning them upside down on installation. I think it may work.

Great Tutorial and Pics
Comfortably made the swap of the burned bulb and new one from the stealership. Although I used their only quote request and it was only $3.55.
Took me about 15 minutes total.
Thanks Club Lexus community for ALL your help....

2. Pull trim piece straight out on the left of the steering wheel, the trim that houses the seat memory switch.
3. Pull trim piece straight out that is around the key.
Any tools I should use? or just grab and pull?

If you take the bezel "black plastic piece around the the instruments"; which is held by 2 screws (top edge) out first, you can grab the two pieces quite easily. I would not use any other tool. As you pull out each piece, examine the bayonet clips .. align the metal pieces if needed.
Put a towel/cloth on top of dash. This will allow you to place the cluster on the dash without damaging it.
