I agree. That step is not needed if the "D" bulb is burned out. The bulb is accessible without taking this final piece apart.

gp1200x and others, imo this issue is ridiculous for as great a product as Lexus produces to have a low-end bulb go out so uniformally.

GEEZ, LEXUS - install LEDs or double voltage bulbs that will NEVER burn out for us - the solution here is a 5 second and cheap no-brainer that hasn't happened apparently on the first RX series.

I wonder about the 330 ?? & frustrated

I like off and no need to be looking at the D light down there anymore. I know perfectly well what gear I am in.
In that case, I'll be sure to ask the dealer NOT to fix it when I go in for the 60K service.

I just replaced mine with the instructions listed on this forum, it took me about 20 minutes and it wasn't a big deal at all. I think I paid $12 for that stupid bulb at my local Stealership in Covington, KY!

Default ECT Power Mode lamp out

Would it be reasonable to assume that the instructions above will expose the ECT Power Mode lamp for replacement ?

Suppose the fact that it's out answers the 'How Do You Drive Your Lexus' thread I just saw in passing !

Our 2001 RX "D" indicator only works when it wants to. I do not think I have a bulb problem because every once in awhile, it will light up. I just ignore it. I know what gear I am in.

I have an old war story

Once driving to SanAntonio, on a back road got into an accident. Tractor trailor rig started to back (totally unexpected) and I experienced tunnel vision and could only see the back of the rig approaching me. I instinctively put the; then Mazda MPV, in reverse .. but my eyes and mind were not in sync (tunnel vision). I had to look at the cluster to confirm, I was in "R". We ended up colliding at a very low speed.

Moral of the story ... there are times when you need all possible indications.

Talking thanks slick20

great info.the only thing i can add is ,all my screws were very tight.use some sort of small gun type power screwdriver, especially for the black trim.also the bulbs are staggared when you look at them from behind the cluster.pay this no mind ,as all you have to do is count 3 bulbs up from the bottom to get to the drive lite.took about 20 min. to do.

Quoting myself... I just went in for the 60K service. I forgot to mention that my D light was out. They didn't fix it nor mention it. Ha!

This reminds me of date I had about a year ago, where the girl pointed out that the D light was out...and I'm thinking who am I dating, Luke Skywalker (what's that flashing thing?).

Replacing the D light later on today. Since I never go to the botom gear, I might as well just swap bulbs with it.

Since you will be spending your own time, might as well part with $8.00 or so and a trip to the parts store and get a fresh bulb.

Tips:

Drape the stearing wheel (area below the place you will be taking the screws off) with a cloth or towel to grab falling screw (accidental).

If you wear gloves, you will avoid leaving behind oily finger prints. (less time in cleaning).

I swapped bulbs as I couldn't find the damned thing in any of the local Pep Boys and refuse to pay what the dealer will ask for the bulb that looks like it came out of a 2 AA cell Maglight!

Leonardo the swap is a great idea, wish I'd thought of it, but I'm with Salim on this, I'd buy the new bulb - hoping LEXUS upgraded the thing to last forever on a DC circuit, which isn't really that difficult, imo.
