Convert Rear Cigarette Lighter to USB
If it is possible, I want to hard wire a usb charger to the power cable for the cigarette light at the back end of the center console (facing the rear seats). If feels like there should just be something with a cable end that plugs into the power cable where the cigarette lighter plugs in. Do you just tap into that power cable? Does the USB cable have to have one of those little boxes on it (I've done a bunch of fuse taps (for isimple and phone charging cables) and those cables always had a little box on them - I've never understood what those are for, maybe to regulate the voltage?).

Any reason it has to be hard-wired? How about a USB car charger:

It steps the voltage down from 12v to 5v.

That's exactly what I use. No muss... No fuss.... Works perfectly.
