Default 1999 RX300 p1354 on/off

Hey Guys, Ive been lurking trying to figure out this issue with the my rx300.

When I got the car it has some problems that have been fixed, I replaced the a/f sensor, and the both OCV sensors and started running great. I keep getting the p1354 and random misfires( all on bank 2) it comes and goes though, runs great until the CEL comes on then high idle(1000-2000 rpm) and jerking and mixed speeds. It goes away after anywhere from 30-50 miles. Even when the check engine is on I still get good gas milage, and it runs okay.

No sludge, and I thought it maybe the timing off a little so I took the timing case off and everything lines up perfect. I read somewhere it may be caused by a bad gas cap although I don't get how(mainly the misfiring). Not really sure what my next step to test is or should I just say the heck with it?

-Thanks Chris

EDIT: I should mention spark plugs and coils have been tested or replaced on all banks.

switch spark plugs & coils on the trouble cylinder with those on a known good cylinder and then confirm these components are not the culprit.

I have, its random misfire on bank 2 ( all 3 cylinders). That was the first thing I checked before pulling and testing the OCV( which has been replaced) and cleaned out the filter. I pulled the new one after the code triggered again tested and tested it. Clean oil in it and the filter.

Thank you

Do you have OEM plugs and coils?

Yes.

When its in park or neutral it idles at 2000 RPM in drive it idles at 1500 RPM. The symptoms come and go with the check engine light. Although Im getting misfire codes the CEL hasn't been flashing(yet).

I wonder if the oil control valve is advancing the timing correctly on that bank. Other thoughts are the VVti advance cam maybe failing....

Any way to possibly test that?

The thing thats confusing me is that the CEL is turning on/off I didn't think hard codes like this went away without a reset.

The think is one bank is declaring codes, to me that says either something that controls valve timing on that bank or failing intermittently.
