Default Spring cleaning!

I know it's been a while. Do any of you guy's do a spring cleaning? Wash, wax, polish just to get the winter scum off the car. Just spent 3Hrs on my RX300 doing all of the above.

What wax and polish do you use?

I do a wash & wax every 2 weeks. And, usually vacuum as well.

I've been using some Turtlewax Hardshell Wax, meguairs quick detailer (now using Meguairs Last Touch Detailing Spray), lexol 2 in 1 leather care, meguairs natural shine, and Surf City Garage Barrier Reef® Carnuba Liquid Wax.

My amazon package just came in today with some more cleaning goodies. Still need to buy another wash mitt, as the current one is quite old!
  • Meguiar's X3070 4" Soft Foam Applicator Pads, (Pack of 2)
  • Meguiar's Hot Shine High Gloss Tire Spray. 24 oz.
  • Meguiar's G10916 Gold Class Rich Leather Spray - 15.2 oz.
  • Meguiar's G4116 Natural Shine Protectant - 16 oz.
  • Meguiar's Gold Class Car Wash Shampoo and Conditioner, 64oz.
  • Stoner 92164 Invisible Glass for Window, Windshield and Mirror Cleaner - 22 oz.

I used Meguiars cleaner wax to buff and wax. Rain-x on the windshield. My buffer hit the frame on the window so now i will hand rub it.

Mequiars professional series or gold class wax..

If its really bad I clay bar first.. But I usually wax the car once a month, and wash the car once a week.. So no need if you keep up with it..

As far is the best wax I've ever found available to the public, would be Zymol. It's a sky blue color in a clear bottle. Most auto parts stores carry it but its not eye level like the Mothers and Meguiars are. It lasts much longer then the afore mentioned waxes do.

I use either Meguiars or Mothers cleaner wax for prep, Nufinish polish once or 2x a year, Turtlewax hardshell wax to seal and maintain the shine.

I bought my 2000 RX last summer and gave it a detailing.

I highly recommend the following ...

1. Wash and dry to get the surface dirt off
2. Clay bar with detailing spray as a lubricant
3. Polish
4. Wax

I was stunned at just how well the clay bar worked. All the tiny particles that had adhered to the paint over time (pollutants, tree sap, etc) are GONE. You know the stuff that you can still feel on the surface after a wash? That all comes off, and it makes for a quick polish and wax, an no fear that these particles will come off and cause swirl marks. I didn't need to clay the car after this past winter. YMMV.

I used Meguiar's, and was happy with the results.

This level of car cleaning 'detailing' as you call it, is quite new to the UK. It is taking off but the cost of the products here is a bit prohibitive. I plan to clay my new RX300 soon, then I have Some Werkstat wax to use on the paintwork. I will be using on of those smart tool orbital polishers which I got cheap on ebay, and I'm waiting for a delivery of 303 aerospace protectant to dress the engine.

Dont forget to browse through special interest group in CL (hint: detailing).

I am not a fan of motorized tools. Also pony up some more cash to get random orbital buffer. If your vehicle has dark color then avoid it altogether to prevent swirl marks.
