Default alignment needed?

Is it normal to expect an alignment after having the transmission replaced? We had the dealer replace the transmission on our 300RX about a year ago and now notice the drivers front tire worn badly on the outside. Wouldn't they drop the engine and transmission together? Just wondering. Thanks

One has to remove drive shafts [half-shafts] to free up the transmission. So at least one (if not both .. upper and lower ball joints) have to be separated.

Should I be trying to get them to align my car after that or just pay someone to do it. We need new tires before alignment. What should a four wheel alignment cost?

Here in Austin, I would recommend Soul Speed and Suspension.

Major shops have variety of options ,,, 1 time to life time so you can pick and choose. Places which sell tires may or may not have alignment facility. If they dont, they usually have a coupon for some one they recommend.

Sears offers close to 100 and claim that there will be no charge if your alignment is good.

Lexus charges close to 150 and you get a loaner.

I personally would have the suspension checked out before just getting the alignment done. There can be a real problem behind the abnormal wear.

If you can find a coupon for your local Lexus Dealer, you will find it's usually around $89.99. This time of year is prime for wheel alignments.
