rattling?

I have a 99 Lexus rx300 and it has a rattling noise but when I put it in gear it's not as noticeable. someone said maybe piston rattle. just wandering if that would be serious.

Just my $0.02:

Rule out easy and less expensive possibilities such as carguy07''s suggestion first. IME with sister's 99, there is some exh coupling that can cause noise....

I took it to the mechanic and he didn't do anything bout lift the good he said sounded like a piston so I'm not sure because he didn't look into it. it sounds like something loose but I'm a girl and don't know much about cars.

where would I look for the coupling? it sounds like it's coming from back ofmotorat bottom
