I was positive that my alternator was shot from the noise it was making, turned out to be the belt just like Salim said. (use OE only).

I just looked through the records and the belt was changed at the 240,000 mile service, May '09. I'm gong to get the V- belt.
Thanks guys.

IMHO 'V" belt is a misnomer. It is a flat belt. Nor is it a serpentine belt. Accessory belt, alternator-ac belt would be correct.

Agree with you Salim it is not a V belt, but an accessory belt. The guy at the Toyota parts department said the same thing. https://www.clublexus.com/forums/ima...es/biggrin.gif

After installing the new belt it still has a whine. I started the car without the belt on and It
has no whine. I checked and the alternator is charging at 13.6V. but I think because it sat for 9 months the bearing is going bad. I also used a wood dowel touching the alternator and could hear the whine in the dowel.

If I did not say before the car sat for 9 months before I purchased it.

Maybe I should edit The first post and give the back story on the car purchase?

Upgrades So after getting the alternator back in I started on the rear hatch. It would not open unless you crawled in the back and pulled the cable The handle was broken and the cable up top was broken also. I go to the the salvage yard and ask if I can get these two parts and the guy tells me only if the hatch is damaged. As luck would have it was creased.
I got the handle and lock assembly, the tail lights and the ignition key for $50.00.

I've got a blank key off of ebay and I'm going to get a local locksmith cut and reprogram it.

The old light's on top. If anyone wants to do this get the wiring harness because the bulb socket is different. The lights are out of a 2001 mine '99.

They are a lot brighter.

I got two door actuators done, driver and passenger and everything is good. I gave a suggestion on what I did. The FOB to me seams weak. New battery. Sitting in drivers seat it works pretty good walk away , and there is a big difference or not working at all.

Is there a way to increase the range or is the FOB weak?

I've been wanting to change the rear lights to match my 01-03 headlights. How much did the swap end up costing you with harness?

At the salvage yard. I got the rear hatch lock mechanism and the lights/harness for $ 50.00 They sell hatch as a whole. The one I got was creased so I got to cherry pick.
