Almost like intermittent scratching. Only when the key is in and power on. Thought it was the CD changer but its in the console behind the temp controls I think. Could it be the vacuum system? Weirdest sound I ever heard because it doesn't sound like a 'car noise'.

Do you hear this when the ac is on or off and have you tried fiddling with the vent control with the ac to see if it goes away?

I had the same thing and suspected a servo motor in the vent system -- sounded like it was behind the radio or info screen. Several hundred dollars to fix, but I think there is a DIY on this forum that can help you do it more cheaply.

search this forum for 'servo' - seems to be one of the most common issues and there are tons of threads on this topic. its most likely servo motors for the vent controls are starting to act up. the problem will get progressively worse with time. or maybe you have an actual rodent in there? its possible..

Listen to see if the noise is too "regular," not random like a rodent. Also, a rodent will stop if you make a sudden noise. The servos aren't frightened by the noise.
