Default Roof Rack

How much weight can the roof rack support? Is it just for bike and ski racks, or can you hook up a hard or soft cargo carrier?

The Crossbar capacity is 75 pounds for any attachments, bikes or skis, mounted to it.

Funny you should ask!

The factory rack says 75 lbs limit. Thule and Yakima recommend that you do NOT place their cargo boxes on the factory rack. I fumed over this for a couple of weeks, having asked the dealer to include the factory cross-bars as part of our purchase deal. Then I removed the bars (the dealer offered to take them back and refunded the full retail price for the bars), and it was obvious why the limit is 75 lbs - the bars are held in place by a metal clip in a track that I wouldn't trust, especially with a loaded cargo box on a windy highway at 70MPH. So, we will soon have a Thule rack (purchased on eBay, came from another RX300), and are trying to decide on which Thule cargo box.
