Default Windshield wiper arm adjustment? wipers slamming into cowl.

Hey all,

How low down on the windshield do your wiper arms sit in the resting position?

I noticed that both wiper blades have been hitting the cowl (?) that sits at the bottom of the windshield... Basically, on every downstroke they hit the cowl before coming back up.

Is this normal? If so....very annoying.

Anyone know how to adjust them?

thanks

Unlike some Lexus Sedans, RX does not have a rest position for wipers. There is standard stop.

Before doing anything, you need to figure out what caused the problem. If some one disassembled and reassembled the arms in the wrong location? If yes then simply undo and reposition. If not then there is some thing else that is going on.

Also look at the max sweep position. The angle of sweep is fixed (for properly working wipers). So if starts low, it may not be going all the way up.

Use blue masking tape as a mark on one edge to mark current position and when you reassemble move up by one gear-notch. Keep a history and you can always go back or make more adjustments.

Procedure is simple, raise the hood and undo the nut at the center of the wiper-arm attachment. Take care not to scratch the paint at the edge of the hood. You will find some info in the Knock sensor DIY and the torque is listed there.

If the wipers have not been messed with, there is a chance that the wiper motor mounts are loose. Investigate before attempting to reposition the arms.
