Default 2002 Rx300 transmission problem

Had the motor completely rebuilt, changed all fluids including transmission fluid. Now it slips really bad when shifting gears, motor revs over 4k rpms when shifting. anyone had this problem?

Welcome to Club Lexus!

Did this happen right after having the engine rebuilt?

If so, go back and have the shop check all connections again. I'm thinking they left a ground undone somewhere, as that would give you the same symptoms you are experiencing. I wouldn't suggest driving it around like this.

Transmissions are run by electronics these days. Before you assume there are trans. problems (meaning mechanical) Be CERTAIN that it is not caused by electrical (meaning ANYTHING in the electrical/electronic pathway). There are oftern trans problems that manifest themselves as mechanical to the novice, that are actually E/E. Don't think for a minute that any large number of mechanics (either dealer or trans shop) are going to be honest or competent enough to diagnose a trans problem that is electronic as that, rather than mechanical when they stand to make $200-$300. on an electronic problem and $4000. on a new transmission. Good luck on finding that ONE honest, competent mechanic who will find out what your need ACTUALLY is and fix and charge you for JUST that.

(the shifts are controlled by electrical solenoids in the valve body and just may be the reason for the slippage) DO NOT drive it that way!

Default RX300 prolems

Thanks for reply...engine won't even start now unless it's plugged in to a code reader...engine stops if code reader unplugged. Getting code P0300 random misfire...unfortunatly mechanic doesn't have proper diagnostic equipement. going to have to take it auto electric specialist...transmission still slipping badly.

Sounds like you're still looking for that competent mechanic. A lot of guys sell themselves as mechanics who should actually be in some other line of work. Sorry to hear that.

Welcome to the Club.

I had an issue like this the last time I worked on my tranny and one issue we had initially is that we had not put enough fluid in (we went by the level on the stick rather than filling it full).

Always good to hear back with good news. Trust me, I spent my life in automotive work and UNFORTUNATELY, there are more bad (incompetent or at least marginally competent mechanics than you would ever believe) It makes me very sad that the average car owner that doesn't know a lot about what makes it tick is stuck with being at the mercy of all too many of them, and pays a high price for it.

Default Accelaration Problems?

So this is an Intermittent problem, Sometime when taking off from a light, It feels like something is holding the car back, and will barely get moving even if floored, then all of the sudden it will let go.

Any Ideas?

2003 RX300 with 229,000 miles, tranny stopped up shifting; had been having problem shifting into overdrive, but then barely shifts out of low gear. Car bucks when trying to accelerate from low gear. Parked car. Is this a solenoid problem or more serious?

A fairly old thread is been revived.

Matguyver1:
I would reset the vehicle memory [disconnect battery fo about 20 mins] and if problem persists, have the brakes and ABS checked before looking into the transmission.

Merrill:
Please give us more information .. do you have any CEL codes. There is safety lockout which can put the vehicle in limp mode to drive to a shop. I am not saying that you do not have a transmission issue, but need more information.

Had to leave car in strange town (240 miles away) because of long weekend. Can't try anything now. Thanks for feedback.
