The post has to do with removing a stuck bolt with the tools he has. The torque info to replace the bolt doesn't solve his problem.

With due respect ... it is very appropriate to shine light on things to come ,,, and how much torque needs to be generated to break the bolt loose.

If you're referring to my response to your post, I feel the torque info was very pertinent. Even though you broke the bolt loose with a sledge and a breaker bar, how did you intend to retighten the bolt to the perscribed 150 ft. lbs. of torque? With the same sledge and breaker bar? If he breaks the bolt loose by your method, that certainly doesn't help him in completeing the job does it? I don't think I missed anything but maybe I did. Fill me in.

The purpose of your second post is too criticize the advice coming from arguably the most knowledgable contributor to this forum who has helped countless number of folks, including personally fixing their cars free-of-charge? Breaking the bolt loose without knowing how to or having the tools to properly torque it during install is a problem worth anticipating.

If you take a moment to read the the post from the beginning you will find that he has a method to jam the pulley which will take care of the re torque issue when he installs the pulley. His problem is REMOVING the bolt with the tools he has and limited funds to buy tools which may be more appropriate. I merely offered a solution which worked for me for him to try. I use a piece of flat stock cut in the shape of a question mark which works well in many applications to jam the pulley when the time comes to torque the bolt. Thats the easy part.

Before this thread gets out of control, I will ask ALL to PLAY NICE or I will take he ball away (lock this thread).

The OP's question has been answered and pictures of home made tools have been posted.

Lets leave it at that.

I found the info very useful and the photos of the home made tool great. Thanks to all! I have been unable to find a basic shop manual for the sc 430 and wonder if someone might supply the correct torque values for all the other bolts/nuts involved in timing belt/water pump replacement?

Please do not post SC stuff in RX. Create a thread in SC forum (or add to already open thread) and give links back to RX thread. You will get SC specific information in that land. You will be enriching appropriate forum. Also members and guests who can benefit from you thread would be looking in the SC forum.

It is appropriate to leave a thank you note in where ever you picked a hint from.

It is not the end of world!

I am sorry if you found my post to be too harsh. That was not my intention.

If you want, we can use PM (private mail) to discuss more.

To link to a post ..

Open the thread (you want to link to) in your browser.
Cut the url ,,, www.clubkexus.com and so on [select and ctrl c]
Now in your new post past the link [ctrl v].

It is as simple as that.

In all honesty, the SC forum is lot more technically involved and advanced. I would say, RX forum is more at introductory level. But it is growing rapidly.

I would urge you get hold of the service manual .. the Originals can be purchased from Lexus Parts, but used ones keep showing up on the net. CDs are available, but I must remind you that the originals have copy rights.
