sound system tweaks on 01 RX
So...I sold my 00 ES300 to my 17 y/o daughter and bought a 01 RX. However...my one disappointment was the way my music sounds. My ES had original factory speakers, I had driven 212K+ miles and pounded that sound system something good, and yet the sound was pure & clean and I loved to sink into that car and listen to how music is supposed to sound. I only had to replace a speaker (with a Pioneer) last Sept when I totaled that side of the car and still the sound was great.
Now...this RX, I put on a good song and the bass and treble just rattle everything. And I cannot figure out WHAT exactly the problem is. I mean...it sounds OK, but it's like the speakers or whatever just cannot handle the music. So with bass & treble rattle is it the two tiny speakers on top? Is it the door speakers? Is it not the speakers and is it something else about the design of the RX?
My car is really the only place I listen to music. I don't want to blow the neighbors away, I don't want to revamp everything, I just want a nice clean sound, the sound that I had become accustomed to.

Sounds to me like the speaker cone surrounds have rotted. Happens more often in warm/humid climates. I don't think the tiny speakers on the windshield pillars are your problem. Check the door speakers first. Mine definitely rotted. I've not had any issues with my subwoofer (under the passenger seat.)
