Default How an Air Filter SHOULDN'T look...

This ladies and gentleman is a prime example of what your air filter shouldn't look like. I don't remember exactly when I installed it, I'm thinking it was about 2 years ago ~ 35,000 miles ago.

As you can see there is somehow sesame seeds and what not in the filter. THe air filter housing also had sesame seeds and crap down there, which I vacuumed out. I have no idea how the seeds got there, I don't have any of them in my house anywhere. lol I wonder how long it's been like this, and what effect it had on the engine?

I also changed the cabin air filter, but it of course didn't have sesame seeds in it. But It was dirty as well.

WHAT?! Why did you wait soooo long??? You will probably see a big improvement in acceleration now...I get air filters for roughly $6 at work, so I replace them every 7500 miles. Doesn't bother me.

That's a long time to not replace your air filter.

I'm sure your engine will be happy to breathe again.

Yeah, I generally replace it every year. But, I forgot last year. I thought I already replaced but obviously I hadn't. I'll be sure to set a reminder on my phone for next year when I need to change the air filter.

This is why you need to upgrade to the built in GPS with maintenance reminder...

I just replaced the cabin filter on our 4Runner and that thing was filled to the brim after 1.5 years of daily use, but engine air filter, a K&N didn't really have an issue. Going to check my RX300 in a few days, but I don't take it out in the rural areas like we do with the 4Runner.

Looks like you had a mouse nest in the pre-filter intake tube at some point..lol

Just be thankful you had the filter there.

That's what I thought as well, but this car has never sat for more than 1 day. lol, how could a nest build up that fast? Just recently though I've started parking the car in the garage, and the garage does have a rodent somewhere. But, still the car literally has not sat still for more than 1 day, it is continuously used.

With almost 15k miles and 2 years into mine, it is really in good shape. All highway miles though in the desert.

Didn't you get yours with like 16k miles on it? If so, you are really rackin up those miles...

No I bought mine from my Dad with around 48k on it and changed it then. Not sure when he had it changed before that but it was kinda nasty, but not as bad as the one in this thread. Gotta update my mileage on my RX300...now have 63k on it!
