I measured the resistance of both old Toyota spd sensors according to the values. It was 565 ohms. So my old sensor was good.

Today when I was driving in the highway the rpm was very good according to speed and no skid in the gear. 60+ mph around 2700 rpm. But still has the CEL P0500.

I suspect you got a wire integrity issue, since you got a new sensor. There are 3 wires - 5V REF, Signal wire and and Ground. Tell me what are your readings. I dont know which wire color for each but you can easy find out with key on and a meter

Thanks. I found the exact digram for 2000 Rx 300 from the TIS. It is different than 2001 for wire routings. Like SPD terminal of ECU E9 #22 V-W colour goes to junction connector IJ1 pin # 12 to combination meter C14 pin # 10 (v-W).
So I will check the wirings tomorrow.

Today I found the problems for DTC P0500. It was the SPD terminal of ECU E9 pin # 22 (V-W color) and junction connector IJ1 pin # 12 (V-W) wire was open. So I soldered it now no CEL. I replaced the counter gear old spd sensor with new spd (from sewell lexus) few days before. I drove the truck today and feel like very smooth shifting and my RX get back its young life. Here is the pics of IJ1 connector (behind the right side of glove box. Three connectors together and the top white one). The last pic is the ECU configs according to 2000 RX 300 AWD.

What do you use to clean the VSS? Can I use throttle body cleaner or MAF cleaner?

Typically, I find the Lexus connectors and connections to be pretty robust. Can you please add some detail on the break. The green wire seems to have a sharp bend. Any Failure Analysis would be great.

Anyone know torque for the sensor bolts? Just got the air filter removed and about to remove and clean the sensors.

Edit: Came off without much resistance, no corrosion on threads. Hand tighten should be sufficient.

As for getting off those sensors, not much luck so far. Able to rotate one about 5 degree each way but can't get enough force to pull straight up.

Edit: One closest t engine was hardest to get off, just wiggled it until it came out. There is a black gasket on the shaft which was probably the sticking point.

Why you need to clean the sensor? Do you got any code? If you rotate the sensor left and right and pull up hard it will come out.

maintenance only. Noticed the shaft is tapered towards the top and now having tough time pushing sensor all the way in. Did you have any problems inserting it flush.

Edit: Thinking transmission needs to be hot (expand) for it to go in flush or it was not designed to sit flush (not likely).

Lubricate the sensor bottom and side with ATF oil and it will go. Sorry for late response.
