I asked the same question but never got the answer from joe250.

It seems we have gone past the point and the service is already being done.

The only thing I can suggest is to remind that the rear main seal should be replaced once the transmission is removed. If that leaks few months after the transmission work, it would not be covered under transmission warranty.

the reason I brought it into the shop was that the 3 screws holding the transmission filter were stripped in the housing as well. The people at the transmission place are replacing the seal as well.

WAS THE TRANSMISSION BAD OR NOT?
No where did you mention that the transmission was slipping, not going into gear, etc. We are all interested...

I do not know for sure if it was bad. Drove it once and notice:about 2 miles and going 55 MPH and did at one point try to speed up by pushing alot on gas but did not down shift but slowly did increased speed to 65MPH.
Joe 250 drove it more and later can share his 5 day experience. After reading many post about problems with RX300 transmission I convince Joe to drain, clean or replace filter and refill. We discovered that one of 3 bolts which hold filter was damaged and it damaged transmission housing (unscrewing bolt was hard and shavings were coming out of housing). Also filter was cloth not metal mesh and we installed new cloth filter.Bad bolt did hold filter but I was not confident to have it that way. We got it all together and filled 5 qt with new fluid. Next day Joe drove 5 miles to transmission shop recommended by Lexus dealer.I called to shop today and they are working on it. Rear main seal is routine replacement with transmission overhaul. When I know more me or Joe will update. Thank you all.

Rx300 is Joe first vehicle. He asked me to help him to buy but I did fail him.He told me this evening that when going uphill transmission was not working good (slipping, had to push on gas pedal to get back to gear) I will pickup the cost of fixing transmission. What a bad experience with his first vehicle. Rotten seller.

I can understand your mood. RX is my first car too, and I suffered exactly the same unfortunate as Joe. The tranny was over after 1000 miles I bought my car.

However, the worst thing was passed. There shouldn't be any major problem for a long time. The next is to enjoy the luxury driving experience.

This is a great car, this is why so many people decide to repair it.

By the way, if you bought a pre-owned Germany car, you could not imagine how much money you had to pay for the repair bills, which is really a endless nightmare.

I did not ask about it. When I see transmission shop owner again I will ask him.I did assume that they know their job. ( I do not )They mention about some software upgrade. Parts : 27004 less steel kit(w/pistons) (1)
U1425AAN front gear train (1), U14445AN direct reverse clutch steel plate (6),90080-31053 crankshaft seal (1),ATF synthetic 312 ATF premium synthetic-Lexus T IV JWS3309 (8) $1303 for parts and $2293 for labor.

Today I did ask about upgraded planetary and he replied it was upgraded. I think they tell you what ever makes them looks good.

If solenoid is part of transmission they will cover it under 3 years/50000 miles warranty.
