Default I need advise on (gelled) motors

Have a 2001 rx 300 with an engine that looks like mud on the inside. Ive been told it would cost about 5500.00 to restore it.. Dealer says its gelled. Anyone with a quick cure without me needing to break the bank advise.. Vehicle does burn oil from the exhaust, but no oil is appearing on the ground underneath the engine. Putting about 3 quarts every two weeks with little driving.

You can try Auto-RX, it's an additive that you put in the oil and it slowly cleans up the sludge. It's cheaper than a new engine, but it requires multiple oil changes.

Replace the PCV valve as well.

Toyota did extend the warranty for 8 years, but it's 3 years too late now. lol

Another option is to find an engine from a salvage yard and have it installed. You can find engines in your local junkyard by going to www.car-part.com

You can potentially dissolve the gel, but what about the worn parts due to lack of lubrication?

The right call would be an overhaul or swap. With labor it is going to be $$$$.

I would check around at different shops. You would be surprised how much cost savings you will find if you do the legwork. I saved almost $2500 on my trany overhaul just by checking prices at almost every shop in town. And like Salim said you are going to want to get overhaul or a swap (with a sludge free motor). You are going to want it done correct, no quick fixes for that one my friend. Good luck though..

Are there specific years that this happens too?
Anyone had any problems with 2001 RX300?

It really depends on how the car was maintained...As long as oil changes were done on time, there is no way you have sludge. Any car can develop sludge, but the 1MZ-FE engine is prone to sludge because the heads run hotter than most cars, the oil passage holes are smaller, which they later made bigger (that's why newer 1MZ-FE engine's don't develop sludge). Also, make sure the PCV valve is new or in good condition.

My 2000 has 5k oci's of any synthetic oil that I can find on sale, and it had absolutely no sludge when I pulled the valve covers a few months ago to replace the valve cover gasket.
