Have you ever serviced the transmission?
If it stopped going into reverse, it's a little late, damage has already been done. You can still drain and fill, but the transmission will eventually fail. No bands to adjust.

You're Welcome.
Try doing a drain and fill, you might be able to squeeze a few thousand more miles out of it. Did he give you a receipt showing that the transmission was actually changed two years ago?

It's your money, do with it as you wish but I'm no fan of Lucas Snake oil. Keep all the Lucas snake oil products as far from your car as you can and you'll be a lot better off.

For used transmissions, look at www.car-part.com. But, remember if you go the junkyard route, then be sure to drop the pan beforehand and check for debris. Also, try and get a transmission from a totaled out RX, because that likely means that the car was in running condition before it went to the salvage yard.

If the labor is insignificant (or DIY) then by all means do a swap. But if the labor is a substantial portion then I would suggest getting an overhauled transmission.
What is insignificant and substantial varies person to person.

99/2003 lexus RX300
i know this is a world that rotates its self on money, something i dont have but i am trying to get this lexus running for my wife, she has been with me threw thick and thin, i am now disabled and she is still with me, i am talking 25 years now, i cant supply her with our own home but with someones help i can supply her with a great truck. it is all wheel drie.
it seams after i replaced the sencer in it, all hell broke lose. it appers that the shop (witch is no longer in business) did NOT replace the torgue converter. it tore up the trannie they rebuilt. i did not have the truck at this time.
i lie here in las vegas so im looking for some help in getting this running for my wife.
thank you all so much

There is 'risk' factor in there. You can take on more 'risk' and get the cost down. Among the most costly solution (and most assuring) solution would be to go the dealership for repair.
The next option would be to go to a reputable shop which will not go under and stand behind the warranty.
Since our resident expert on transmission (Thomas) feels the problem is due to the planetary gear, the lasting solution will come form an overhauled (with replaced planetary gear).
