DOT 3 or DOT 4 fluids.

Not sure what you have readily available in the stores there, but Valvoline has a good synthetic commonly available in stores and the Castrol GT LMA fluid is also good. Better ones, but you probably would have order online are the Pentosin synthetics or the ATE Superblue.

The ATE comes in both blue and clear colors, so you can easily tell when the old fluid has been flushed by alternating colors.

I went with the Super Blue as well. Mainly just for that reason, a third grader can tell when the old it out. After that, it's quality stuff!

I also went with this bleed kit: http://www.speedibleed.com/. Since I usually do this alone, I've found nothing easier and safer on the system that this.

1 liter should be enough to do the job from my experience.

I have never done a brake fluid flush. I have owned 10 diff. vehicles and some up to 200,000 miles.Avalon. My ford truck is 15 yrs old with 150,000 miles and i have never done it. My opinion, but i don`t see all the hype.My Rx is a 2001 with 115,000.No problems. What reasons do i need to do this?

Because fluid degrades and requires replacement. Same reason you change your oil.

Default Why Change Brake Fluid?

I think with brake fluid, the reason is that brake fluid is hydroscopic (absorbs water). Once the fluid stops being able to absorb water, you get internal corrosion of the brake cylinder and other internal parts, and possible freezing of water in the brake lines. The brake fluid change interval is by time and not mileage.

We commonly use Type 3 or Type 4 brake fluid. From what I have read, Type 5 is a silicone-based brake fluid that was developed for the U.S. military for use in vehicles that are in long-term storage. It is non-hydroscopic and not recommended for use in non-military vehicles.

Lightbulb Is Pentosin Dot4 Suitable for RX300

I've been trying to search online for information about the suitability of Pentosin Dot 4 in my 00' RX300, but haven't been able to find much information for this vehicle. So I'm wondering if Lexmex has any updates since he's been using this in his car. Do you notice any difference in your braking ability. Also, now that you've tried it, what is your opinion on it.

I went to the Pentosin website, and it shows that this fluid is suitable for a bunch of European cars, but no mention about being suitable for Lexus. Anybody else have any experiences with this brake fluid. If so, what are your thoughts?

If it meets DOT4 specifications (which is backwards compatible with DOT3), then it is suitable.

I can't get that blue ATE anywhere! Some sites say it's discontinued. It really would make bleeding easier. My old fluid usually looks pretty good, so it's hard to tell old from new.

Try ebay, from time to time sellers will sell it under the guise of "For off-road use only"
