Default 1999 RX300 Opportunity

I have an 07 rx350 that I really really enjoy.

However I have the opportunity to purchase a 99 AWD with most options for around 1,500 that needs motor work and possibly a new engine all together.

What is the approx. cost to install a new engine? If I install a new engine and the vehicle is in good condition, what is the market value of this vehicle?

I would not keep it, but try to make a couple of bucks on it.

Any imput is appreciated. Thank you.

Not worth it in this day and age to buy a car than needs work, and try to make a few bucks, especially since it doesn't get good gas mileage. If you were getting a beater civic, fixing it up and selling it you may make money, since it has good fuel economy, and the used car market prices are high.

No one is going to buy a CUV, gas prices are too high. Plus, there might be undisclosed problems besides the engine, and that could make it even more expensive. And, you may end up being stuck with a car that needs too many repairs and exceeds the cost of the vehicle.

Current market value for a 99' near me is $7k. The newer the RX, the more it's worth. You didn't mention how many miles the 99' has? If it has low miles, it might sell after being repaired of course. You can find a used engine from the salvage yard for $1200. Then you just need to find a job willing to install it.

If you were going to be keeping it, then it would be a good deal.

Chances are, if it has a bad engine, it's been neglected. This doesn't bode well for the transmission. With the prospect of an almost complete drivetrain replacement, it just doesn't make sense under any circumstances.
