Default cold weather shifting

has anyone had the problem with their automatics not upshifting when the weather is really cold? it seems to take a few miles of driving before it acts normal. thanks

perfectly normal....The engine is setup to warm up as fast as possible, so therefore the tranny keeps the engine at higher revs while cold....

Please search on something like this. I can't tell you how many times this has been discussed. Our cars have a built in safety mechanism. Te car needs to warm up before it can be driven normally. It is that way so you can't damage the transmission before the fluid is up to temperature.

This is mostly done for catalytic converter warm up.

thanks thomas1 that makes me feel better now, as to the other members sorry i did'nt use the proper protocall and use the search method first. i just joined this forum due to the fact that we just bought a lexus and are unfamiliar with the car and the forum.shame on me.
