What are the 2000 and 2001 RX300 Top Maintenance Issues
Hello everyone,
I am new to this forum. I am looking to purchase a 2000 or 2001 RX 300. Could you please help me with the top maintenance issues?

First a warm welcome.
Browse/read the posts. Parts and service is high. I would suggest get a service history dump and if possible get the vehicle checked and for your reassurance get a competent transmission mechanic check out the transmission. Various sensors start going around 100k miles.Door lock actuators also start going out around 100k.

Parts and service costs are a little higher than Toyota parts and service, but not that much higher. Getting parts mailorder (e.g., some of the forum sponsors) can save a lot, and there may be good independent mechanics in your area that specialize in Lexus. Some Lexus dealers are really expensive, but there are others that are more reasonable (probably outside the major metro areas). You can get a feel for common replacement parts at www.irontoad.com .

In general, these car's are very reliable. As long as they have been maintained well, they will last forever. I have 170k miles, my uncle has about 380k miles, and another forum member on here I believe has 300k + miles. All of the RX's I listed are on the original transmission, and original engine.

I still own a 2002 RX300 and here's a list of problems I had around 100K.
1. I had replaced the main window switch ($830 dealer price but found a lot cheaper part from a junkyard).
2. both passenger and driver side door actuators were replaced.
3. the gasket between the engine and transmission started leaking but fixed with Lucas synthetic oil stabilizer.
4. MAF and Throttle body issue
It was pretty a reliable car until 100K but I guess it needed some care. It still runs like a new one and I still love driving the car. Parts are pretty expensive but I learned that there are other ways to reduce the maintenance cost such as getting parts from online stores and junkyard.

Many of the AWD transmissions go out due to aluminum planetary gear carrier failure. This is fixed with newer steel carrier upgrade.
Another one bites the dust. Just got mine back yesterday, $3,510 out the door.
