I guess its because my Explorer has cost $4,000 in service in the past 5 months that these prices don't seem that bad.

I'll never own an American car again

Default yup...

Couple "non-Lexus" shopes I got quotes from were offering between $700-800, so I figured might as well go with Lexus and a loaner for two days... I'd love to know what dealer will charge you less????

spinteews,

Thanx for the welcome note.

You paid $400+ for the 15K service? For yer 20K service, make sure ya check out a Toyota dealership for that.

My RX300 is usually cruising the streets of Alameda. I have only seen one other Silversport like mine in Alameda. I haven't done any mods to the RX300. It's as stock as the day I picked it up. I have attached a picture (hope it works, I have never posted a pic b4).

Enjoy!

We have all had our share of good and bad experiences, but the difference between American and Non-American vehicles is not very distinct.

Z3 a very worthy alternative to RX is American designed and Built.
RX pretty soon will be built in NA.
ML Chrysler/Benz is now part American.

There are other examples too, but I only chose the ones to highlight the three factors ... Corporation, Assembly and Design.

I too would not like to own an Explorer. But I have fond memories of my first car, a V8 Oldsmobile.

Oh I know Salim, I'm just venting.

And my Explorer has been a very nice truck. Its good looking, has held up very well, reasonable free of rattles and looseness. Its just lately I've basically replaced everything that can be replaced, and my Ford tech (whom I now consider a member of the family ) says I'm lucky! I'm going to hang onto it for now, it'll be good for snow etc, and plus I've already rebuilt it from the ground up lol.

I pay $80 per oil change in NJ from my Lexus dealership (every 5K miles); that gets me:

oil
labor
loaner car
"detailed inspection" of car
tires rotated
car wash
leather oiled/cleaned

I don't remember the cost of the 15K and 30K maintenance checks (or minor and major tune ups), but I seem to have the impression of $250/$450 (or double those numbers... I really don't remember), or something like that. I have no idea what that includes, sorry.

Oh geez...

Where do I change my oil? Tony's Service Station... very conveniently located in my driveway.

Takes less than an hour (without a lift or any jacks) and I KNOW it's being done right (the most important part, not the $$$). I'm sorry, but if you take it to any of the large chains like Jiffy Lube you are only asking for trouble... I've heard too many horror stories.

And there is always the possiblity that the kid doing your oil change at the dealer is keeping the Mobil1 you gave them for himself and just dumping the dealer oil into your ride... think it doesn't happen?

I have to agree, oil changes at the Lexus dealer are simply ludicrous in terms of price... 20k, 25k service intervals are easily handled by anyone themselves... change the oil yourself... and if you have replaced the tires already you hopefully have lifetime rotation included.

Just my 2-cents (which I saved by doing it myself)

That sucks SW03ES.... one thing good about NY is that there is a law that says anyplace that sells oil, has to allow disposal... which usually means taking the used oil to your local service station to dispose of.

I thought you could do this everywhere... I guess I was wrong

Maybe time to write your congressman?

You have to take it to the HazMat section of the Montgomery Country Municipal Waste Treatment Facility (Fancy MD talk for dump), they come out to the car in white suits (no joke) and relieve you of your "hazardous waste", then they give you a nifty bag made of recycled fibers as a thank you.

Its like one of those bad sci fi movies where the people are treating someone for the plague.
