Default No Heat. AC Works, Seats Heat up, air is blowing from vents

Hi, I have two problems... first is my ac works fine, air blows from all my vents, seats heat up, but I'm not getting any heat, even after the engine temp is warm. any ideas??? also every now and again i get this clicking from behind my cd player??? thats where it sounds like its coming from. Now, i'm not sure if this sound has anything to do with my heat, but I've had this noise for a couple of years and the heat always worked.

any advise (with pics) would be appreciated as i will attempt the repair instead of running to my mechanic.

Search on air-mix servo.

As RX ages, it seems to be a common problem. The part is not cheap.

Hi again, just been looking through or searching info on air mix servo.... I'm confused. I got all the info on where it is how to replace or attemp repair... but which one do i replace? I have cold air blowing out of all the vents.. top, bottom, defroster, etc... all works fine, just no heat when I ask for it. should i replace all three?.. thanks.

The first step is to remove the kick plate on the left hand side of the passengers foot area. It's just a small piece of plastic.

You'll then see two aluminum steel lines. Radiator fluid runs through those. Warm up car and turn on heat. If the lines are hot then you know your heater coil is getting heat and it's the servo. If they are cold, then it's low coolant, thermostat or something else.

If it's the servo, then remove the glove compartment and follow the DIY air servo writeup.

The servo you want to look at is the one in the back and down behind the white plastic vent chute (just remove that so you can see better.) You'll see the servo control an arm that directs air over the heater (or not.) The heater is exactly where the two aluminum lines run into.

Run the car and switch between max cold and max hot. If the servo doesn't move that arm, then it's the servo. You can replace it or try to repair it. Unfortunately the screw behind the two aluminum lines holding that servo in place is a PIA to get out. That's the only thing that makes this repair a "job".

Good luck.

Hi, I had the same problem with hot air not coming out and this link help me understand the problem https://www.clublexus.com/forums/rx-...-cold-air.html . The heat trap door got blocked because of the air servo, hence that clicking noise from behind the cd changer.

Good reference. In fact... Lexmex, could you add the above link to your post in the DIY FAQ on air/servo:

I had the same issue with my 2004 RX330. Took the truck into the dealer to diagnose and they confirmed bad servo and ordered a new one. I got lucky because noticed that the heater was working again when driving home. So, it seems like the motor wasn't completely toast and somthing might have just been stuck. I'll take the $120 diagnosis fee over the $500+ bill to replace the motor any day!
