Default New Cabin A/C Filter

At the East Coast CL Meet in Deal's Gap TN, I won a $100 gift certificate from Steve Ganz @Carson Toyota. I wanted to get a new grille for my RX, but after a while it became clear that what I wanted was going to be expensive and take several weeks.

I took the simplest route and got $100 worth of oil filters and A/C cabin filters.

Here's what 6 months and 10K miles of driving in the Mid-Atlantic and Southeastern US will do to a filter.

New filter is on the right.

Thumbs up

man, that's crazy dirty!

any idea how to "clean" an AC filter at 5 or 10K??? I would like to keep mine as clean as possible without having to replace it everytime it's dirty.

DD,

You know the RX and IS use the same OEM Cabin A/C filter.

I would only post an OEM Condom...BTW, Got a part # for that?

I washed that dirty filter...I used Lysol liquid and rinsed so that all water flowed through the filter in the opposite direction of the air-flow, effectively backflushing the filter. After rinsing, I let it soak in Clorox for 20 minutes and rinsed again. I air dried it for 24 hours and here are the results. Shown with another one of my new filters...

Here are some backlighted pics...Which is which?

impressive cleaning.... I wonder if letting it sit in Clorox will affect how long it lasts... at any rate, an incredible job, and great option if you don't want to go out and buy a new one if your current one isn't that dirty.

I used Clorox, to whiten and kill any organics that were left on it.
Because it's synthetic, the filter material won't whiten up like cotton. I expect that overexposure to such harsh chemicals could weaken the fibers...I rinsed it very well...No smell at all left behind.

Hey, I really don't expect this newly cleaned filter to last as long
as a new filter, but any extra time I get out of it is gravy.
