About to purchase an RX3 & need advice...
Hi there. We're getting ready to purchase an RX300 and was just wondering if I could get some advice from this wonderful forum.
1) It is a 1999 with 28,007 miles. The in service date is 8/99. It is at a BMW dealership and is not certified. I can get it for $24,300. Does this seem like a decent price to you?
2) Since it isn't certified I was considering an extended warranty purchase. Can I do this through Lexus? Any suggestions on this matter concerning price & different warranty companies?
3) Any problem items that I should look for before pulling the trigger?
Any advice you can provide would be greatly appreciated.
TIA!
Kirk

The price looks reasonable from my point of view. I lease a 2001 RX 300 and at the end of my 39 month lease the buyout price is about $24K. Your car looks to be about 38 months old. The relatively low mileage is a good factor.
The only extended warranty that I purchase is for a "Large Screen" T.V. Extended auto warranties, in my opinion, are really not worth it.
Besides Lexus has an excellent reliability rating.
No problems with our 2001 RX 300 (except lower than expected gas mileage). Note: The cup holders and coin drawer could be re-engineered, though.
Good luck.

Only major TSB that I know of that would be pertinent has to do with strut mounts. Make sure that the strut mounts (both front and rear have had problems) were either replaced OR that you don't have thumping/rattling sounds from the suspension over bumps (which is what it sounds like when one or more has gone bad).
This is NOT a safety issue, ie, the struts won't all of a sudden fall out, but it does create very un-Lexus like amounts of noise.
You might go to alldata.com and review the TSBs for the 99.
Sounds like a reasonable price, esp with those low miles!
Replace the Goodyear Integritys as soon as you get it. I (and many other members) have gone to the Michelin CrossTerrain, but Bridgestone Dueler H/L & H/T have their advocates as well. Replacing the Goodyears will greatly change (favorably, of course) the driving feel and handling.

Thanks very much for the info. We purchased it on Monday and so far my wife loves it! I actually drove it yesterday and noticed a (comparatively) loud thumping sound when driving over bumps. I was wondering if that was normal so your heads-up on the TSB is greatly appreciated! I'll get it in to lexus asap to have them look at that.
Thanks again for the replies... I have a feeling I'll be spending a lot of time at this site as we now have the RX300 and I'm planning on replacing my Acura with a used GS400 in the next month or so.
