Just added Auto RX whats the white smoke?? UPDATE PLEASE HELP
I recently bought a 2000 RX300 which was a one owner and had good service history from the dealer. I thought it would be beneficial to do the auto rx treatment since it has 149K. I added the first bottle after I did an oil change (Castrol GTX hi mileage) 3 days ago. I am now seeing excessive white smoke after cold start up and it takes several minutes to disappear. (The outside temp is in the 80's) Has anyone had the same scenario?
Thanks, Larry
Thanks, Larry

Are you certain it is white and not blue-ish? White smoke usually means water, which is a bad sign, but blue-ish smoke is typically oil. Neither should be caused by Auto-RX. See the smoke for several minutes is also a big concern.
Check your coolant level and see if it's low.

Thanks for your answers/suggestions. The smoke does in fact seem a little bluish. The coolant level is OK and the oil is also good. I double checked the auto rx instructions and they say that when I do the second bottletreatment I should change to straight dino oil.
I will try to troubleshoot this more tomorrow. Thanks again.

I found the culprit. I had just changed out the pcv valve with one from the local auto parts store. I recalled that the orfice was a little larger than the oem. Well I bought a toyota pcv valve today and installed it. Voila!!no more smoke. I believe the bigger orfice non oem valve was allowing too much crankcase gases to be dumped into the intake. This is convincing me to always use oem toyota parts even the small stuff like a pcv valve.

Update //rapid increase in oil consumption
I CHANGED THE OIL FOR THE RINSE PHASE AFTER THE FIRST BASIC AUTO RX TREATMENT JUST BEFORE I DROVE TO GEORGIA FROM OHIO.USING STANDARD DINO OIL ( iSTILL HAVE THE SECOND TREATMENT TO GO AFTER THE FIRST RINSE PHASE WHICH IS READY NOW ) AS A PRECAUTION I CHECKED THE OIL AT 300 MILES INTO THE TRIP AND WAS ALARMED TO SEE IT A QT LOW. PRIOR TO THIS THE OIL BURNING HAD BEEN SIGNIFICANTLY REDUCED (SEE MY PREVIOUS THREAD). ALL THE WAY DOWN IT BURNED A QT EVERY 300 MILES. ON THE WAY BACK IT STARTED BURNING A QT EVERY 150 MILES. I AM BAFFLED AS I STATED EARLIER,I FOUND NO SLUDGE WHEN I PULLED THE VALVE COVER. I GUESS WHAT I AM ASKING IS DO I START LOOKING FOR A NEW ENGINE ? WHAT WOULD ACCOUNT FOR SUCH A RAPID INCREASE IN OIL BURNING? INCIDENTALLY THE TAILPIPE IS EXTREMELY SOOTY. CAN THIS CLOG MY CONVERTERS IF I CONTINUE TO DRIVE IT? ANY ADVICE IS EXTREMELY APPRECIATED . THANKS

Are you sure there's no oil leak? 1 quart every 150 miles, seems unrealistic. If it were that bad, you probably wouldn't have much power either.

I have no oil leaks and it did use 1 qt every 150 miles. I changed the oil today back to castrol hi mileage and will see if maybe this was a combination of being in the rinse phase and highway 3000 rpm driving. If there is no change I guess I got hosed by the dealer.

How many miles did it have on when you bought it? Did it use oil after the purchase? These engines are pretty tight when right. I bought one with 135K and it uses about a quart every 6000 miles. If this was a recent purchase I would take it back and have him make it right.

Well I did the oil change and put in a new oem pcv valve. The oil consumption has declined to a quart every 1000 miles. I am going to do another Auto Rx treatment in hopes that the problem is still coked up ring packs. I'll update after the rinse cycle.
Thanks for all the ideas and suggestions.
