E-85 ethanol fuel
Can E-85 ethanol fuel be used in my 02 RX300? Cannot find this info in the RX manual. Use 87 octane is all it really says. Probally did not have ethanol then, 2002. I do NOT want to use it but an article in todays paper has me looking into this.

Absolutely agree. I search out ethanol free gas whenever possible. E-85 is 85% ethanol. It would likely be the death of our engine. Would never even consider it. This is not one of our governments best ideas!

Every year I have to run some cleaner through my tank (it's called star tron fuel enzyme treatment) just to clean the ethanol gunk out of the bottom of my tank.
Cars are so much cleaner today along with the gasoline (non-ethanol gas), just let technology do it part. I hate ethanol.

Unfortunately, this is one of those ideas that makes sense on the surface but does not in reality. I have calculated a 14% drop in fuel economy when using gas with 10% ethanol in my wife's Rx400h. Therefore, any potential reduction in exhaust pollution is more than eaten up by the extra fuel I burn. Not to mention the increased water which ends up in my tank. Pretty much a pork barrel to the corn producing states. Corn should only go into food production. Biodiesel on the other hand makes sense.

The reason Ethanol has a bad reputation has to do with the way it causes existing rust in fuel tank to dislodge and clog fuel system. Stories of worn rings and valves due to the corrosive nature are comparable with damage with water.
If fuel system is clean i realy can't see a problem using it. Don't be so sold on crude oil your getting a combustible fuel octane levels are the only proof you need.
