I had the rear main seal leak. Used 5-30 high mileage oil on a RX300 2000 and it seemed to stop. I just put in synthetic and the leak returned.

I'll be using the high mileage stuff next time.

Default Rear Main Seal

I forgot to include this in my last post. In the case of my Lexus the rear main seal cut a pretty deep groove into the flange of the crankshaft. I found these guys online who have a seal surface repair sleeve ( Speedi-Sleeve) for this crank shaft. Just click on the link and scroll down to Toyota/Lexus with a 3.625 diameter seal (that is .002 over 92mm) and you will find the sleeve and plastic installer. If you buy a sleeve get the installer.

Hi All, Thought I would chime in to offer my experience on this issue. I own 2 older Lexus vehicles and I do all my own maintenence/ repair work on my cars. I developed the same RMS leak on my 2002 RX300 at about 125k miles. I was dreading the 20+ hour labor intensive job just to replace this seal and stumbled upon the AUTO RX after doing some google searches and reading on the BITOG site.

Like others hear I was sceptical and after the treatment cycle the leak was a little worse as expected by the instructions. Then about halfway through the rinse cycle, ~1500miles, the leak just stopped! I was amazed and thankful. Since that first Rinse cycle, on the next oil change, I did another full treatment just to ensure a more complete clean, and heck it can't hurt for all the other seals either.

I am just hoping the AUTO RX has given me a seal that can go another 60k miles or more. I plan on adding the maintenence 3-4oz. to each oil change to maintain the seals cleanliness and letting the dino oil's seal conditioners do there job.

On a side note, I also used this in my 98 GS400, as they have the VVT-i cam seals that are known for sweating/leaking oil and are just as much of a PITA to change as the RX RMS is, the entire intake cam and timing belt has to be removed to change these VVT-i seals. MY 1UZ-FE is now purring like a cat at idle owing to the other benefit of AUTO RX that dislodges the carbon and piston rings and improves compression during the engine cleaning process.

I am a True Believer in this product!

When i replaced the rear main seal in my DIL's '99RX in May, '06 at 97K mi. it also had a pretty deep groove cut in the crankshaft. At first it truly alarmed me because I thought the CS was for sure going to have to be replaced. Because of an emergency situation I went ahead and smoothed it nice and clean with emery cloth. The groove was still very evident but I went ahead and replaced the seal, having no choice. That was 6& 1/2 years and 85K mi. ago and has never been any sign of a leak. I did learn a year or two after I'd replaced that the professional mechanics do the same as I had and have NO problem with leak as a result of the groove. The seal easily compensates for it. I doubt that the sleeve is necessary.
